summary
Simple, appealing interior and exterior elements were designed to create a sense of place in the Portland Fire & Rescue (PFR) headquarters lobby and Station #1 making it a part of the historic neighborhood. The interpretive panels were created to identify the building as a center of PFR activity. Compelling objects like the axe handles used as a panel base and images place today’s PFR in historic and neighborhood contexts. Succinct, memorable stories of the past and present inspire visitors to learn more.
